Activity galore for spring and summer 2019!

Thanks for coming back and keeping up with my news folks!

It was a relatively quiet winter period gig-wise – highlights being Stockton and Spalding Folk Clubs in January as a duo with Chris Parkinson.

Stockton was the first folk club I ever played at, all of 51 years ago! I learned a lot there from The Teesside Fettlers, Ron Angel, Sandy and Robert Still. Both of our gigs this January were standing room only – they may be few and far between, but when they happen, they are memorable!

All through the winter I’ve been rehearsing whenever possible with a new band – VERY exciting. Called Archer, Matthews, Russell, you can get all our details here: https://www.facebook.com/Archer-Matthews-Russell-Celtic-Music-from-NE-England-2134093449977152/?view_public_for=2134093449977152 You can see videos there and read all about our chequered history. Not on facebook? Try this link for videos: https://www.youtube.com/user/AliMckenzieRussell As of this Autumn, our band will be available for booking.

This summer will be my busiest for years on the gigging, sound engineering, stage management and recording front. Scroll down for performing gigs and sound jobs. In amongst all that, I’ve just completed a landmark recording for Leeds CCÉ – that’s Comhaltas, the worldwide organisation dedicated to Irish Traditional Music. A CD with a massive 28 tracks, from brand new recordings made at Leeds Irish Centre, to right back as far as 1973, and including tracks I previously recorded for them but were yet unpublished. See pics of the album launch and read about their 50th Anniversary Celebrations here: https://www.facebook.com/leeds.comhaltas

Soon I’ll be off around the festival circuit again, mostly sound engineering but playing a bit too! One of the summer’s highlights, as ever, will be Wickham Festival, which goes from strength to strength and this summer features the biggest lineup yet. As an old hippy, I’ll be especially thrilled to introduce to the stage Graham Nash and Judy Collins. Just…wow! Here I am at last year’s Wickham.
