Thanks all for reading my 2025 winter summary of another enjoyable year in music.
I’m on an enforced slow-down in my gigging just now as I’m having ongoing treatment for nerve-related hand issues. I’m having problems on two fronts – one is carpal tunnel related, for which I’ve already had a steroid injection in each hand. This has restored some better function, and my left-hand chording is regaining accuracy. The other is possibly remediable by a nerve procedure – I’ve had an MRI scan for that and await possible outcomes. Several colleagues of my age group are reporting similar issues of pins and needles and loss of sensation during prolonged playing. A ‘normal’ gig of song/chat/song/chat is do-able. But our Rogues gigs around St Pat’s, involving non-stop hell-for-leather sets in noisy venues, are beyond me and for this reason we have cancelled those gigs. Once my possible nerve treatments are fully explored, they may be on the cards again – watch this space.
